Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about shipping your car with Liberty Auto Transport.

Pricing & Quotes

How much does it cost to ship a car?
The price depends on distance, your vehicle's size, the transport type (open or enclosed), the season, and how accessible your locations are. The fastest way to know your exact cost is a free instant quote.
Is the price I'm quoted the final price?
Yes. We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees — the number we quote is the number you pay, unless you change the details of your shipment.
Do I have to pay everything upfront?
No. Typically a small deposit (included in your quote) reserves your carrier, and the remaining balance is paid at delivery.
What payment methods can I use?
The deposit is usually paid by card, and the balance at delivery is commonly cash, certified funds, or card — depending on the assigned carrier.
Why do quotes vary so much between companies?
Pricing reflects real carrier availability and current market rates. A quote that's far lower than the rest often means long delays or extra fees added later.

Booking & Scheduling

How far in advance should I book?
Booking 1–2 weeks ahead usually gets the best rates and availability, though we can often arrange faster pickups when you need them.
How quickly can you pick up my car?
On popular routes pickup is often within 1–3 days. If you're on a deadline, expedited service can get your vehicle on the road sooner.
Can I choose a specific pickup or delivery date?
We arrange pickup and delivery windows; the exact day depends on the carrier's route. Expedited service offers tighter, more guaranteed windows.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
Yes — just contact us as early as possible. What's possible depends on how far along your shipment is.
Do you ship year-round?
Yes, all year. Demand and weather can affect timing and price, especially during the busy summer months and snowbird seasons.

Open, Enclosed & Door-to-Door

What's the difference between open and enclosed transport?
Open carriers move cars on an open trailer — the most common and affordable option. Enclosed carriers fully cover your vehicle for maximum protection from weather and road debris.
Which transport type should I choose?
Open transport is ideal for everyday cars, trucks, and SUVs. Enclosed is best for luxury, classic, exotic, or high-value vehicles where extra protection matters.
What is door-to-door service?
Your driver picks up and delivers as close to your pickup and delivery addresses as is safely and legally possible — no terminal drop-offs.
What if the truck can't reach my street?
If a street is too narrow or has low branches, the driver will arrange to meet you at a nearby spot such as a large parking lot or wide intersection.
Can you ship more than one vehicle at a time?
Yes. Shipping multiple vehicles together can lower the price per car — just let us know during the quote so we can plan it.

Insurance & Safety

Is my car insured during transport?
Yes. Every carrier we work with carries cargo insurance and meets FMCSA requirements. For a high-value vehicle, ask about the exact coverage limits.
What happens if my car is damaged in transit?
Damage is rare. A condition inspection is recorded on the Bill of Lading at pickup and delivery — always compare and note any new damage before signing at delivery.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We operate under FMCSA licensing and work only with licensed, insured carriers that meet federal safety standards.
Should I document my vehicle's condition?
Absolutely. Photograph your car from all sides before pickup and keep a copy of the inspection report for your records.

Pickup, Delivery & Transit

How long will shipping take?
Roughly 2–4 days for regional moves and about 7–10 days coast-to-coast, depending on distance, route, and weather.
Can someone else hand over or receive the car for me?
Yes. Just designate an authorized adult (18+) to release or receive the vehicle and sign the paperwork on your behalf.
Can I track my shipment?
You'll have your driver's contact information and can get updates on your vehicle's progress along the route.
Can I leave belongings in the car?
Personal items aren't covered by carrier insurance and add weight. We recommend shipping the car empty; if you have light items, ask us first about what's allowed.

Preparing Your Vehicle

How do I prepare my car for transport?
Wash it so existing marks are visible, remove personal items and toll tags, leave about a quarter tank of fuel, disable alarms, and note any current damage.
Can you ship a non-running vehicle?
Yes — just tell us in advance. Inoperable vehicles need special equipment like a winch and may cost a bit more to load.
Can you ship modified or oversized vehicles?
Often, yes. Let us know about lift kits, lowered suspension, oversized tires, or roof racks so we assign a carrier with the right equipment.
